{"id":65,"date":"2026-05-02T01:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-02T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/myfatherstoolbox.com\/?p=65"},"modified":"2026-05-01T13:52:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T17:52:14","slug":"running","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/myfatherstoolbox.com\/?p=65","title":{"rendered":"Running"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Jonah was a prophet to Israel during the reign of King Jeroboam II (2 Kings 14:23\u201328). He was not new to hearing from God. He had already been used as a voice to speak truth into the nation. So when we meet him in the book of Jonah, we\u2019re not looking at a beginner\u2014we\u2019re looking at someone who knows exactly what it means to hear and respond to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then comes the assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>God calls Jonah to go to Nineveh and preach against the evil taking place there. This wasn\u2019t a small task.  From a human perspective, Jonah had every reason to hesitate. But God\u2019s command was clear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-x-large-font-size\"><strong>Go.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-760f677ea8e3e5b0f35659eedd97f2ec\"><strong>Instead, Jonah runs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it\u2019s important to notice this: Jonah isn\u2019t just running from a task\u2014he\u2019s running from the presence of God. The text tells us he went \u201caway from the presence of the Lord.\u201d He heads in the opposite direction and tries to distance himself as far as possible from what God asked him to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><em><strong>If we\u2019re honest, Jonah\u2019s reaction isn\u2019t unfamiliar.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are moments when we sense God prompting us\u2014to forgive someone, to step into something uncomfortable, to speak truth, to change direction\u2014and everything in us resists. Instead of leaning in, we back away. Instead of obeying, we delay. Sometimes, like Jonah, we run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">But here\u2019s the tension: you can run from the assignment,<strong> BUT <\/strong>you cannot run from God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Psalm 139:7 says, <strong><em>\u201cWhere shall I go from Your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from Your presence?\u201d<\/em> (ESV)<\/strong> The implied answer is simple: nowhere. There is no distance, no decision, no detour that removes us from God\u2019s awareness or reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What would change if, instead of running from God\u2019s voice, you turned toward it?<br>What would your life look like if obedience replaced hesitation?<br>What might God do\u2014not just in you, but through you\u2014if you simply said yes?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>God is still giving us assignments today. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jonah was a prophet to Israel during the reign of King Jeroboam II (2 Kings 14:23\u201328).
